My nickname for the generation 2000-2009 is Generation Disaster and Generation technology. I chose the name Generation Disaster because there are many disasters that happened in the 2000s. One, The Twin Towers burned down in 2001. Also Hurricane Katrina happened in 2005, The Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, Bush was elected twice and it made the people divide and also the Virginia tech Massacre in 2007. Also eminem became Billboard Magazine's # 1 recording artist, which to me is a disaster because i think he stinks at rapping. I also chose the name generation technology because technology really started to get big in this generation. Many things have changed in the technology world during this generation like Craigslist online expanded in 2000, The launch of Google AdWords in 2000, Launch of wikipedia in 2001, Shutdown of Napster 2001, Googles initial offering in 2004, Online revolution led by You-tube in 2006, Facebook and Twitter launch in 2006, The I-Phone launches in 2006, Use of the internet is the US presidential campaign in 2008, and the use of twitter during the Iranian election protests 2009.
Three historical events that shaped the decade are 9/11, President Obama being elected, and Hurricane Katrina. 9/11 definately shaped this decade because many people were killed during it. President Obama being elected shaped the decade because he was the first black president. Hurricane Katrina shaped our decade because it was a very bad natural disaster ad it made many people lose their homes, family, friends, pets, belongings, etc.
